I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend filled with joy, peace, and happiness! We sure had a special weekend around here. Let’s do a little recap, shall we?!
We started our Christmas Eve morning out with some homemade waffles! This is one of our favorite breakfasts to have for special days. I made Cody two regular chocolate chip waffles (his favorite), and I made myself a whole wheat pumpkin chocolate chip waffle topped with peanut butter and light maple syrup (second photo below).
Cody and I decided to open our gifts this year on Christmas Eve morning this year. In the future, we plan to do it on Christmas Day, but we had church Christmas Day morning and didn’t want to feel in a rush before church.
Stockings were first!
Reese’s Trees and candied pecans – my favorites!
Cody wrapped my gift(s) in a HUGE box that I could easily fit into with several of my other gifts wrapped in smaller boxes inside. It was quite hilarious. You can’t see it from the photos, but he used staples and duct tape to wrap it too… that’s a guy for ya! 😉
First huge box had 15 lb. weights for my little “home gym” – woo hoo!
The next boxes included a flannel top I’ve been wanting, my favorite Bath & Body Works lotion, and a gift certificate to get a pedicure! Good job hubby!
My parents shipped us several gifts too, and I got a new Canon Power Shot! I LOVE the little thing!
I also got magazine subscriptions to Fitness and SELF, a cute beanie and scarf, Just Dance 3 (which I am obsessed with – so fun!), perfume, pajamas, and workout clothes! Thank you parents!
Cody did pretty well this year too! I got him a Chicago Bears sweatshirt that he really wanted, some new jeans, sweatpants, and a few other random things.
My parents got him a nice watch, a couple dress shirts, and gift cards to Texas Roadhouse (his favorite restaurant!) and Home Depot. He was happy as a clam!
Needless to say, the living room was a huge mess when we were finished. Ryan (our yellow lab) was pooped after “helping” us unwrap everything.
The rest of the day was spent playing Just Dance 3 on the Wii and testing out my new workout attire by going on a run with Ryan. I got a long sleeve Nike top and some gray Nike capris that I LOVE! I’m not wearing the capris in the photo below because it was pretty chilly outside, but I loved how well the Nike top kept me warm. I was also excited to conquer my fear of running in the cold weather!
We went out for an early dinner together at Cheesecake Factory which was really nice. We started out with their yummy bread basket, and I got their veggie burger with a side garden salad for my meal. Of course we saved room for dessert and split a slice of their chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake. I spaced taking photos of the food, but just trust me when I tell you it was delicious!
After dinner, we headed to church for a special Christmas Eve Candlelight Service. It was a very nice service that included some Christmas songs, a short message from our senior minister, I read the story of Jesus’ birth to the little kids, and it ended with everyone singing Silent Night with our lit candles in hand.
Christmas morning I attempted homemade cinnamon rolls for the first time! I used the Pioneer Woman’s recipe, and they turned out fantastic! They’re a little time consuming as you have to prep the dough, let it set, then roll them, slice them, and bake them. I prepped the dough the night before and let it set overnight which worked out really well and saved me some time in the morning. Cody and I both loved them! I think homemade cinnamon rolls on Christmas Day morning will definitely end up being an annual tradition for us.
We went to church after breakfast and then headed over to our close friends’ house for a delicious midday Christmas dinner! We munched on some appetizer foods that included crackers and cheese, veggies, mini black bean & cream cheese wraps, and a few other finger foods. We sat down for dinner around 4:30 PM which included turkey, roasted garlic red potatoes, stuffing, corn casserole, and whole wheat rolls. It was delicious! We ended our meal with some dessert that included our choice of homemade cheesecake, pumpkin pie, and apple crisp. I had a small slice of cheesecake and a little apple crisp. Yum! Wasn’t the table set so beautifully?!
The rest of the evening we spent visiting with one another and worked off some of our food by playing some Just Dance 3 on the Wii. We also made some phone calls to our families back in Arizona which was really nice as we missed them a lot this year!
T’was a very Merry Christmas! I hope your’s was too!
Tell me about your Christmas!
What were some of your favorite gifts this year?
